How to follow Twitter Accounts from Mastodon
Quitting twitter altogether may seem difficult at first. Despite its many flaws, the platform has managed to attract a huge number of interesting people who would otherwise not be so accessible. From sport atheletes and journalists to book authors and key political figures, it is undeniable that it would be good to follow these people, even if they are still stuck on the legacy social networks.
The good thing is that it is possible to follow them and have access to their feed in the Fediverse. The "trick" is simple: instead of following people on Twitter, we can use servers that make mirrors of the Twitter feed and follow those.
The largest server that does that is bird.makeup, so that's the one we will be using here.
An username on Twitter is always the same on the mirror servers. So, if you want to follow @nasa on Twitter, you can find them via @nasa@bird.makeup.
Caveats
- Communick's instance connects with any of these mirror accounts, but some other servers in the fediverse (notably mastodon.social and mastodon.online) have established a policy to reject connections from any of those Twitter mirror instances. In case this search does not work, check the rules of your instance administrator.
- This communication is only one-way. If you send any response to the mirror account, the message is not going to be sent to Twitter.
